Crush Heights and Get Your Workout in City Rush

This game may not dazzle your eyes, but it will captivate your senses!

I don’t know about you, but I am extremely scared of being above the third story floor. Beyond this floor, I cannot rationalize being up so high with the risk of falling to my death and City Rush brings out that kind of fear. This is a game that you only play if you want to conquer your fears at the same time you exercise.

What is City Rush?

First we had to walk the plank over a city and then we had to climb a bunch of candy to get to the goal. The goal of this game is to scale the city skylines to traverse the city. That’s it. A really simple idea, which expressed by the fact that, in the description, the developer notes the idea came from his brother.

Graphics and Visuals 2/5

The graphics for this game are virtually non-existent. Beyond the fact that you can tell you are in a city and really high, everything else looks like it is part of a game engine rather than what would be introduced as a game. This game is in early access though so the graphics may improve later on in the game. As of right now, the graphics aren’t terrible but they’re pretty bad.

Hardware Requirements 4/5

Even though you are rendering an entire city, the game’s requirements are surprisingly low. You only need 2GB of RAM and 400 MB of space in order to play it. You do need the standard i5 processor and GTX 970 graphics card though. I think that is simply due to the game engine that was used to make it and that primarily has to do with the APIs used by the game engine.

Fitness 4/5

This is where the game actually has some solid gameplay. You need to climb over the buildings in order to get to the next building. On top of this, you need to quickly move to each new platform via a balancing pole or by climbing on balls suspended in the air. The only issue with this game is that it doesn’t have any incentive to move quickly, which would automatically classify this game as a workout ready VR experience. The game is challenging in its own right though as you must continuously climb in order to move to the next platform, but it needs more challenges behind it in order to truly bring out the sweat.

Gameplay 4/5

The gameplay is very fluid and easy to understand. You will quickly find yourself terrified while dangling in the air and the only way to get over the fear is to cautiously continue to play the game through. This is a game that I look forward towards seeing the final product, but it is not worth the initial $9.99. However, since the developer has already stated that the price won’t change then it might be worth the investment in the long run.

Overall Rating: 4/5

While the game is not finished, it does provide a great experience at such low requirements. You can pick up the game quite quickly, which is hard to achieve in many of the VR games. I will say that this is the first type of game that has been so unfinished in comparison to previous games that I’ve given such a high score. This is because even though the game is unfinished, the core of the game is there and the core of the game is really good. I do look forward to the graphics being improved over time and a lot more advancements being added into the game.
