While we typically cover mostly virtual reality video games here at VRFI, augmented reality titles are similar enough in nature and can often have fitness benefits of their own. To that end, a new AR game is set to release within the coming months that should do more than enough to get you up and off your couch.

Coming from Japanese developer Graffity, Leap Trigger is a new AR hero shooter that is set to release in the United States soon. The game will be coming to mobile devices and will also be entirely free to download. As of today, players can also begin pre-registering to play the game prior to its launch in the near future.

When it comes to how Leap Trigger plays, it allows users to become a “champion” where they can then use to do battle with others. While you as a champion have your own unique abilities and weapons that you can utilze, players can also obtain “buddies” to go into combat with them. Essentially, these buddies are small monster-like creatures that have special abilities of their own. At any one time, you can have three different buddies with you with each filling striker, defender, and jammer roles. It’s important to use the best buddy for each situation, though, as each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

You can get a look at how Leap Trigger plays in the video right here:

The way in which Leap Trigger would actually promote a healthy lifestyle comes with how you have to play it. As you can see in the video, when you have shootouts with other players, you’ll have to be dodging and weaving all over your play space. With your mobile device not only acting as your gun, but also as your player-controlled character, you’ll have to move about in order to avoid oncoming fire.

The other great aspect about Leap Trigger is that you can play with people from all around the world. Whether you want to take on friends who are also playing the game, or instead do battle with random folks online, Leap Trigger is open to both formats. Not to mention, with the game being completely tied to your phone, you’re never confined to a certain location in order to play. So if you’d like to play in your room, outside, or anywhere else, you can do so.

While Leap Trigger might not be the most fitness-focused game we have covered here at VRFI, it absolutely will make sure that you’re staying active on a routine basis. And considering so many other games in the mobile space don’t take advantage of you moving about your body, it’s great to see that Graffity has crafted an experience that promotes this type of activity. Not to mention, it also just looks like genuinely fun, joyful game to play. Hopefully, that will prove to be true later this year.

Leap Trigger still doesn’t have a specific release date, but we should start to hear a lot more soon given that it has a “spring 2021” launch window. The AR title will also be available across iOS and Android devices once it ends up releasing. You can currently pre-register for more information on the App Store right here.
