New Releases: This Week In VR Fitness Games 5/28/18

Nothin’ But Net

Want more activity in between basketball games this season? Nothin’ But Net is a true VR basketball game and sim where players take to the b-ball court solo or compete against friends and other players online. Let off some steam or settle a bet between friends by playing 1v1 in regular Speed-Ball or multiplayer Speed-Ball in a 2v2 game, H-O-R-S-E for old school bragging rights, Rapid Fire against the clock, Knockout to find out who the best baller is, and get practice with Free Throw to do your own thing.

Fitness Potential

Nothin’ But Net takes place on a gymnasium court in VR where players will actually use their arms and controllers to dribble the basketball, shoot to score, and even balance. You can play this game sitting or standing in room scale, and the basketball hoops can be lowered for this. Players that are standing and sitting will get a good upper body workout. Standing and moving around to take shots is going to use your lower body and core more than sitting alone.

Developer/Publisher: What Up Games, LLC

Release Date: May 28, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, with tracked controllers

Price: $6.99 to $9.99

To The Top

To The Top started as a PC VR game and has now moved to PSVR. This is a single-player, co-op and multiplayer obstacle course that’s going to push you to beat your fastest times by using your arms and controllers to leap and scale walls and platforms. As a To The Top Academy robotic pilot/superhero you’ll be jumping, climbing, falling, flying and skating around 35 levels. Bonus: To The Top has a kick-ass soundtrack, so turn it up, waaay up!

Fitness Potential

To The Top pilots can bounce off walls and hard to get to obstacles, scale up flat and curved walls, and then be launched into the air and fly down strategically. The game is played by using gesture and not button mashing, so you’ll be using the upper body to race through timed obstacle courses (no pressure!). Playing in room scale is going to give your legs a bit of a workout, especially while maneuvering around a big robot or more strenuous challenges.

Developer/Publisher: PANIC BUTTON LLC/Electric Hat Games LLC.

Release Date: May 29, 2018 (PC release May 2017)

Compatible with: PSVR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers

Price: $19.99

HEXION

This is an action-intense, multiplayer and FPS game where two teams of 5 will face off against each other in a futuristic shootout. Play HEXION as a co-op or solo against AI challengers if you don’t have enough players to form a team. There are 3 game modes to choose from like Team Elimination, Team Deathmatch, and Overheat where you have to work towards completing an objective. This game is early access.

Fitness Potential

Playing HEXION with another person, group, or AI on maps like Ganymede and Compound or other types of challenging modes will give you a workout as long as you’re actively moving around in room scale. With 8 weapons and 2 types of grenades, there’s going to be a lot of upper body action, while sneaking and shooting from behind walls and ambushing players with teamwork will keep your legs on the hustle.

Tainted Fate

As a demon that’s been dropped into the human world, it’s your job to rule the underworld and not be an actual body in it. This is a super gory (guillotine, dismemberment, nudity) and a very adults-only game (adult jokes, cussing) so be warned and don’t hand it over to your kid to play. This isn’t a puppies and kitties getting along in mass hysteria kind of game, you’ll be playing a demonic being ripping convicts, ghouls, and lesser demons apart with claws. This game is early access.

Fitness Potential

Pulling and tearing apart characters that are trying to attack you and keep you from returning to your home sweet home, aka the Underworld, is going to use upper body muscles if you do this type of attack frequently. You’ll activate these same muscles when you throw explosive objects and gain other special abilities by fighting bosses, but will also use your legs when you move your monstrous claws around in rooms scale.

Developer/Publisher: Delta Reality, Misfit Village

Release Date: May 28, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers
