This Week’s VR Game Roundup — Zombie and Hero FPS, Medieval Combat, Cricket, & a Food Fight!

ZOLO – Zombies Only Live Once

This is an early access game. YOLO! I mean ZOLO! Take punch em’ up, FPS, and zombie game and put it in the blender. What you get is Zombies Only Live Once. Clock cube zombies in the face with sharp knuckles, send them hurtling through the air, and attack with weapons for a decent workout.

Fitness Potential

Punching ravenous zombies in their dead faces is going to be a great upper body and core exercise. Pelleting hordes of these deadly fascist nincompoops with bullets and other weapons is going to keep your body moving in room scale. Add a weighted vest to add extra resistance while you’re slaying these creeps in Necroville.

Developer/Publisher: Game Cooks

Release Date: December 10, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers

Price: $3.99

Slightly Heroes

Join in an FPS multiplayer match or fight as a lone wolf solo hero. Shoot, throw bombs, set up traps, and fight for glory in arena style maps like City, Barnyard, and Island. Go up against AI Heroes to train and so you’re not waiting around for people to join in. Leverage power-ups so your opponents keep guessing what kind of attack will take you down.

Fitness Potential

Shooting with ammo that looks like paintball pellets makes for a great and not gorey time. Play against AI and other real players in diverse arenas and use upper and lower body movement. Level up your heroes, unlock weapons, and stay up on that leaderboard for fitness inspiration.

Developer/Publisher: Hatrabbit Entertainment

Release Date: December 11, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers

Price: $7.99 to $9.99

Blade and Sorcery

This is an early access game. Put your medieval magic, sword fighting skills, and range attack skills to the test. This is a bloody game for anyone that’s not into this kind of combat. For those that crave realistic combat, this is a game you’ll enjoy. Play as a sorcerer, warrior, or ranger for a mix of fighting styles and weaponry to play with.

Fitness Potential

Typically, throwing magic, stabbing, slicing, and treating AI challengers like their pincushions will get the whole body involved. This game is heavy on the upper body timing for distance and face to face combat. Shield yourself and block to reduce damage taken and dip down to lower your chances of becoming a dead man (or lady).

Developer/Publisher: WarpFrog

Release Date: December 11, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers

Price: $19.99

VRiczat – The Virtual Reality Cricket Game

This is an early access game. Get out on the virtual cricket field and use your cricket bat to bowl balls. Set in a realistic 360-degree stadium, players will face off against leagues and international teams in matches.

Fitness Potential

Cricket sims are good practice for when you can’t make it to the park or field. Swinging a cricket bat is good for the upper body and core when you hit it hard. I’m not really sure how cricket works but this is a decent game if you’re into it. Add a Vive Tracker to a bat for fuller immersion but beware of your surroundings indoors.

FoodFight

Eating healthy in real life takes practice. FoodFight is a VR game that helps you do just that. Collect healthy food and knock or throw away junk food! Get those fruits and veggies onto your side and throw unhealthy food at obnoxious Food Goblins. Use boxing gloves and lunch trays to get rid of the bad stuff.

Fitness Potential

As you progress in this game there will be more Food Goblins and throwing challenges. Aim and throw food at hoops to gain points, use magnets to collect groups of them, and use coordination and upper body mobility for a mini workout. Overall, get some great mental training to make better choices at mealtime.
