Virtual reality fitness programs have the potential to transform a flabby body into one that is absolutely chiseled. If you enjoy video game-like virtual settings and are on the prowl for a fun way to stay in shape (or get in shape), virtual reality exercise apps are right up your alley. However, diving right in head-first without any preparation will limit the enjoyment and results of your VR fitness experience. Let’s take a look at some accessories that will help you make the most of your virtual workouts.

A Fitbit or Other Digital Performance Tracker

Plenty of VR apps function in unison with digital performance trackers like the Fitbit. This nifty little device will gauge the frequency and intensity of your motions and upload the data to the virtual reality app. Some VR programs will even send this data to community leaderboards so your performance can be compared against that of others across the world. However, even if the VR app does not collect data from your Fitbit, it will still help in your quest to track your physical fitness progress. Check you Fitbit after each VR exercise session to gauge whether your performance improved, declined or stagnated compared to previous sessions.

A Ventilated Room

You are going to work up quite the sweat as you run, cycle, jump, twist and dodge through virtual reality environments. Make no mistake about it – virtual reality workouts are just as intense, if not more intense than traditional workouts. Though it is certainly possible to exercise in a closed-off room, it is not advisable. Use a well-ventilated room of your home for your VR workout and you will enjoy consistent airflow. Ventilation serves to prevent odors from accumulating after you work up a sweat. It also helps you breathe in much-needed oxygen during your taxing VR workout.

Mind Your Clothing

A virtual reality exercise session requires the same type of breathable workout gear you use when running outside or working out at your local fitness center.  VR workouts are just as intense as traditional exercise sessions in the gym. Wear light moisture-wicking clothing so you can move without hindrance. Opt for shorts, a tank top or short-sleeve shirt and sneakers meant for athletic activities.

Wall Pads

Consider padding down the walls of the room in which your VR workouts occur. Ideally, this room will not have a ceiling fan or other obstructions. Though most VR technology has sensors for the app to establish boundaries, it is still possible to hit the walls, ceiling fan and other items. The last thing you want is to break your controller or smash your body into a rigid wall while donning a VR helmet!

Gloves

VR workouts are so immersive and challenging that your hands will likely accumulate a good amount of sweat. Do some shopping for a nice pair of gloves to use during your virtual reality exercise sessions. Don some gloves and you will greatly reduce the odds of the controller slipping out of your grip. Pick out some thin gloves that will allow for a solid grip, enable easy maneuvering and prevent sweat from reaching the controller.

Reliefband

If you feel slightly nauseous or dizzy while engaging in a VR workout session, consider slapping the Reliefband on your wrist. This nifty piece of technology looks like a watch and serves to decrease motion sickness while engaging in virtual reality experiences. Though most people don’t suffer from motion sickness while partaking in VR exercise sessions, those who are new to VR technology might feel a bit nauseous. The Reliefband stimulates the nerves beneath the wrist to reduce motion sickness. Don this VR fitness accessory and you will feel perfectly balanced while running, jumping, crawling and cycling through VR realms.
