Invitational Event Features VR Gamers Over Age 40

If you think you’re too old to enjoy VR esports or gaming, think again. VR Fitness Insider has covered VR fitness before as part of a healthier lifestyle for middle-aged or older adults and when it comes to esports in virtual reality, the population of older players is growing rapidly. To be clear, when we refer to “older gamers,” we’re referring to a wide range of ages. Sometimes we’re referring to people over age 70 and sometimes we’re simply talking about anyone over age 30. For the Echo Arena Grand Masters Invitational, all players are over age 40.

Over the past several years we’ve seen the growth of VR gaming communities that support everything from table-top tennis and stationary biking to first-person shooters and ultimate frisbee type sport in zero-gravity. The introduction of portable headsets such as the Oculus Quest brought tens of thousands of new users into our communities and a good portion of those are adults who seek opportunities for increased physical activity, alternative entertainment, social experiences, and more.

As part of the mission to highlight the positive, inclusive environments possible in VR gaming, VR Community Builders presents the Echo Grand Masters Invitational Thursday, February 11 at 8:00 p.m. EST. There will be gameplay as well as interviews with some of the players.

  • Thursday, February 11
  • 5:00 to 7:00 pm PST / 8:00 to 10:00 pm EST

This event has been coordinated through collaboration with some of the most recognizable names in Echo VR, including:

This will also be the premier event for the VR Sports Network, a production crew with locations around the globe.

About the Game

During the Echo Arena Grand Masters Invitational, players will compete in a virtual reality game developed by Ready At Dawn. Echo Arena features gameplay in a virtual zero-gravity arena where teams of four use skill, strategy, and teamwork to score in the opponent’s goal.

Due to the immersive quality of virtual reality and the feeling of presence you have in VR, it can truly feel as if you’re flying, boosting, and controlling the disc in this zero-gravity environment. For readers who have never experienced it before, it can sound a bit unbelievable, but new users quickly realize how amazing it is as soon as they enter Echo VR for the first time.

We invite you to watch the Echo Arena Grand Masters Invitational and join us on social media if you have questions.

Prizes

This event isn’t being played for money or prizes. The goal is to feature older gamers enjoying the wonderful technology of VR and while there aren’t tangible prizes for the Grand Masters Invitational, sometimes the intangible prizes are just as rewarding.

When you become part of a community, particularly in an immersive environment, you make friends. You can have fun, share stories, comfort one another over losses and stresses of life, and sometimes you simply want to win if they’re on the other team. Friendly rivalries are quite common in Echo VR and challenges have already been taking place among Invitational participants.
