As the years have gone on, the VR space has continued to receive games of differing genres. That being said, the niche is definitely still lacking when compared to games that appear on standard consoles and PC. Fortunately, a new game in a genre that hasn’t been explored all that much in VR is set to arrive next month and it looks quite promising.

After a closed and open beta session earlier in the year, Thirdverse Inc. and inXile Entertainment have finally announced the release date for Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds, and it’s coming sooner than you might think. The game is set to launch in a little under two weeks and will release on December 1 for $24.99. It will also be compatible with ten different languages when it releases.

Just what is Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds, you might ask? Well, it’s a multiplayer shooter that pits two teams of five players against one another in a variety of different game modes. The game is set within the cold landscape of Antarctica, and while it will primarily have different players duking it out against one another, there is a PvE spin on the formula as well. So while you might be focused on gunning down other players that you’ll be running into, you’ll have to keep a constant watch on your surroundings for other foes, too.

As mentioned, the multiplayer shooter is a genre that hasn’t been explored that heavily in the VR field, which makes Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds stand out a bit more. This combined with the title’s unique weapons, enemies, and distinct maps makes it seem as though it could be an experience that isn’t just fresh for those with virtual reality headsets, but it could match what has been seen in other FPS titles on non-VR devices.

As for Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds’ application as a fitness game, the high-level of replayability that it seems to boast seems to be the biggest thing to pay attention to. This likely isn’t a game that you’ll be picking up once and putting away forever. So even though some of the motions and activities you’ll be performing here might be pretty basic, through continued use, you’ll definitely start to see yourself getting in many good workout sessions over time. Plus, considering this is something you can play with your friends, it’s a nice change of pace compared to many other VR titles that are often solo experiences.

Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds will be releasing on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Valve Index when it drops next month. It will also be purchasable through both Steam and the Oculus Store. If you pick the game up at launch, you’ll also be able to be in the running for various prizes that include an RTX 3080 graphics card, an Oculus Quest 2, or a number of other obtainable depending on how you fare in the title’s Leaderboard Challenge.
