New Releases: This Week In VR Fitness Games 12/11/17

Pip Boy approved! Credit to: Bethesda Studios

Fallout 4 VR

It’s been centuries since the first atomic bomb dropped and the player’s left in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. This is a first-person action, role-playing, story-driven scavenger game where the player will be roaming across the open world collecting objects to survive and fight. Rely on the good ol’ Pip-Boy 3000 to navigate the world, check character health stats and inventory.

Fitness Potential

Room scale tracking for Fallout 4 promotes leg movement (wear a smartwatch to count steps!) and the style of the game will fuel players curiosity to gather more than fight, depending on where they are on the map. Mutants will be tracking the player and wild mongrels, beasts, and humans will motivate the player to fight for their life. Adding weighted gloves or vest for resistance, muscle building, and fat burn will turn up the heat on this impressively designed game.

Developer: Bethesda Game Studios

Publisher: Bethesda Softworks

Release Date: December 11, 2017

Compatible with: HTC Vive with tracked controllers

Price: $59.99

Flip The Table

Flipping water bottles was a fad that came and went. Now it’s time to get the stress out by flipping virtual tables and by breaking objects! Have a bad day? Flip a table and break stuff. Get into an argument? Strap in and flip a table. Bored? Flip a dang table over already, geez. Be careful not to flip and break a real one in your room scale setup!

Fitness Potential

Flipping tables made out of the air, aka the controllers, isn’t realistic. Add some realism to an adult tantrum by wearing weighted gloves for added resistance and a way to simulate the weight of objects like baseball bats, bottles, food, chairs, and tables. Although the player will be flipping and breaking things across 5 stages, fitness gamers will want to also use other VR fitness cardio games in their fitness gaming regimen.

Developer/Publisher: Barracuda Disaster

Release Date: December 13, 2017

Compatible with: HTC Vive with tracked controllers

Price: $1.79 to $1.99

Willowisp VR

This is an Early Access game that equips the player with two light swords, red and blue, to slice and dice incoming wisps or fairies, also red and blue, as they attack. Pay attention to sounds and be aware that their attacks will come in 360-degrees. The demo version allows gamers to access levels 1 to 4, while the pay to play version will unlock levels up to 10.

Fitness Potential

For the most fitness impact, players will want to try playing in easy mode to gauge their ability and then move up the difficulty to the harder settings if they need more intensity. Willowisp’s endless mode (not available in demo) will give a good upper and lower body conditioning workout from the swordplay and foot placement. Maneuvering wisps with bombs and the armored iterations of them will get the player squatting and sidestepping to avoid getting hit which will also serve as a lower body workout. Warning: Lazily tapping wisp orbs or stepping out of the way isn’t going to do anything for the body. To get the best exercise squat to escape a bomb and swing those light swords!

Developer/Publisher: Will Petillo

Release Date: December 13, 2017

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers

Price: $4.99
