If you are a fan of rhythm games then Harmonix is a developer you have learned to know and appreciate. The creators of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Fuser, have also made some of the best virtual reality music games as well. In fact, the Boston-based developer’s Audica manages to blend a first-person shooter with rhythm elements to create a unique experience that will give your arms a test. There are 33 songs to play (with even more available as downloadable content), which will each have you shooting different color targets. With multiple difficulty settings and leaderboards, this has plenty of replayability and a nice learning curve.

If you prefer to dance your way to burning calories then Audio Trip is a great option. Players stay active by using their arms to activate drums while also moving out of the way of barriers. It delivers a total body workout that can be made even more effective if you squat under barriers. There are also several popular artists in the soundtrack including Lady Gaga, Skrillex, Zedd, and deadmau5.

Another incredible rhythm game is Audioshield, which was one of the very first virtual reality exercise games. Despite it being older, it’s still a great workout as it uses an enhanced version of the Audiosurf algorithm (also made by designer Dylan Fitterer) to create custom levels based upon the music you’re playing. You will get a great arm workout as you block objects with both hands and duck into different positions.
Audioshield has been given a fitness rating comparable to tennis by the VR Institute of Health and Exercise, although mods can bring it up to a biking equivalency. According to its Yur.fit rating, players will burn 5.5 calories per minute and average 75 squats per hour. The game is currently available for $19.99 on the Oculus Store.
Of course, Beat Saber was going to make the list of the best Oculus Quest VR fitness games. Beat Games’ innovative rhythm game has become a phenomenon and is easy to play as it has you slicing different color beats with energy swords. While it’s a simple premise, it gets quite complicated on higher difficulty levels. There’s also an unmatched amount of replayability thanks to leaderboards and multiple gameplay variants. Plus, there is great DLC featuring artists like Green Day, Panic! at the Disco, and even the K-pop group BTS.

One of the most unique titles on our list, Blaston is a cool twist on the bullet-hell shooter genre. While there are still countless bullets on-screen, they move in slow motion and players will have to move out of the way from them. The multiplayer battles are intense and it has quickly become a competitive favorite. There’s no lack of replayability and you will attempt to learn all of its nuances as you take on other players.
Creed: Rise to Glory
The first boxing game on our list is Creed: Rise to Glory. Based upon the “Rocky” film successor, it has you stepping in the shoes of Adonis Creed and face off against some of the larger-than-life boxers from the series. As you can expect from a boxing game, this is one of the best arm workouts in virtual reality as you will have to punch out your opponents. It’s not as realistic as some other boxing VR games, but it still has you focusing on defense and has a ton of replayability thanks to online play being available.

Dance Central VR
The second Harmonix title on our list of the best Oculus Quest VR fitness games is Dance Central VR. This adapts their popular dancing game to virtual reality and will have you dancing along to songs like “Humble” by Kendrick Lamar. It’s a great dancing game and you will learn some fun, calorie-burning choreography along the way. With several difficulty levels, even the most uncoordinated gamer can have some fun learning to dance.
Echo Arena is the free half of Echo VR. The team-based multiplayer title is a ton of fun as you move through a zero-gravity chamber as you attempt to score goals. You’ll also be punching opponents while floating in the air. Also available is the objective-based team game Echo Combat for $9.99, which you can get if you dig what you play for free.
Originally known as BoxVR, FitXR has been renamed since it offers a lot more than just boxercise courses. It’s a full body workout that has been put together by personal trainers. Your legs and core will get toned as well, whether you are enjoying a multiplayer class or its hours of music solo. With multiple paid DLC packs adding even more content, there’s no shortage of workouts in the VR exclusive.
FitXR has been given a fitness rating comparable to tennis by the VR Institute of Health and Exercise and has a 7.5 calories per minute Yur.fit rating that is comparable to rowing. Holofit by Holodia
If you love using a bicycle or elliptical machine to exercise then Holofit can make your workouts even more exciting. Featuring several programs, it allows players to run, cycle, and row in 11 different worlds (ranging from underwater to Antarctica). If you don’t own exercise equipment, it can also use just your bodyweight (although that isn’t the ideal way to enjoy it).
Holofit requires a subscription to play (9.90€ a month or 108€ per year), although there is a free trial to check out. If your bicycle or elliptical machine isn’t FTMS Bluetooth enabled, a cadence sensor will allow it to work with Holofit.
Holopoint Oculus Edition
Holopoint has been the gold standard for virtual reality archery games, so it was great to see it get ported to Oculus Quest last year. It’s still a great workout and one of the most high-intensity exercises you can do in virtual reality. Players take on waves of enemies that they have to defeat with their bow and arrow, and it provides a great workout for your entire body.
In Death: Unchained
If you want a lower intensity arm workout then In Death is a great option. This archery title has players dodging out of the way of both arrows and melee strikes while also shooting foes with arrows. It helps separate itself from the crowd by incorporating rogue-lite elements, so it has plenty of replayability. The Quest port is excellent and is highlighted by a wide array of enemy types.
If you want a competitive title then Ironlights fits the bill. The sword combat title has players taking on either other humans or artificial intelligence in an arena. With complex melee combat, players will have to parry and block attacks if they want to succeed. While there are some solo modes, they are meant to prepare you for multiplayer. Depending on how intense your competitive matches get, this can become quite the workout.
Another great boxing title in VR is Knockout League. While not as intense as Creed VR, this boxing title focuses on arcade fun. As such, it’s perfect for those looking for a bright and colorful workout as they get to face off against some wild foes (like a boxing octopus) and there are great mini-games in the training alley.
Ninja Legends is a great action game that has four different difficulties available. Your reaction speed will be tested as you use your arms to take out waves of foes. A recent update added in archery as well, so there is plenty of ninja weaponry to master such as chain darts and claws.

Another one of the best Oculus Quest VR fitness games is OhShape. Players have to use their body to match a hole in a moving wall. While it seems simple, you’ll have to punch and dodge obstacles, and the speed increases over time. It winds up being an excellent workout for all ages and custom song support adds a lot of replayability.
Path of the Warrior
Developed by the talented team at Twisted Pixel, Path of the Warrior takes inspiration from classic beat ’em up titles. However, it feels much fresher thanks to the move to virtual reality. A great showcase for room-scale gaming, players will punch out enemies from every angle and can dodge attacks. It’s a great arm workout as a result.
Pistol Whip has quickly become a VR fitness gaming favorite. The rhythmic shooter has players shooting enemies to the beat of catchy music. It’s a great hero fantasy as you take out dozens of foes while dodging attacks as well. In later levels, it becomes one of the most intense workouts in all of VR.

One of the best VR esports titles is Population: One. While it’s a bit weaker from a workout perspective than many of the titles on this list, it’s a great battle royale if you dig those types of titles. The mobility is unmatched as you’ll be taking full advantage of the vertically-designed levels. Your arms will stay active as you are aiming guns and performing actions to move around the environment.
Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR
If you’re looking for a low-intensity arm workout then Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR is a great option. Not only does it feature great physics that will test your table tennis skills, but it takes full advantage of room-scale play. You’ll be moving around taking on each of the game’s 16 foes, each of which have their own style of play. There’s even online play, so there is never a lack of challenge.
Another one of the best Oculus Quest VR fitness games, Racket Nx is a virtual sport that takes the classic game Breakout and combines it with racquetball. Each match has the player attempting to destroy targets with their tractor beam-controlled ball. Armed with online multiplayer and solo modes, there is plenty of fun to be had.

Song Beater: Quite My Tempo!
Another great VR rhythm game is Song Beater: Quite My Tempo! It has players using their fists and several different weapons to smash their way through music. With custom song and video support, there’s plenty of options and you can use your typical workout music.
Another Oculus exclusive on our list is Sports Scramble. This over-the-top sports title will have players playing tennis with a golf club and other ridiculous mash-ups. Thanks to online play, you’ll be able to share the laughs with friends as well. Less intense than most of the list, it’s a great cooldown title.
Superhot VR is the best low impact workout on the Oculus Quest. This unique shooter has enemies only moving when the player moves. The slow-motion gameplay has players dodging bullets by using their full body and is often more of a puzzle title than an action one. It also got free holiday-themed DLC, so the fun never has to stop in the endless mode.

Supernatural is a connected fitness app that helps you make the most out of your home workouts. With new exercises added daily and multiple difficulty options, you will be able to workout with advice from coaches and experience incredible locations while you get fit. Built specifically for fitness enthusiasts, it features a ton of statistics on how your workouts are going. It has received great post-launch support and recently added in goals and streaks to help you stay motivated.
Supernatural has a Yur.fit rating of 7.4 calories burned per minute and players average 172 squats per hour. While it is free to download on the Oculus Store, it requires a subscription. Supernatural won our Best VR Fitness Game of the Year award for 2020.
Synth Riders has been a favorite of ours since it released and this rhythm game keeps getting better. Not only does it keep you active by blocking and punching targets, but it has received multiple updates that have added a ton of content including multiplayer. The most recent update added in power-ups and Muse DLC is on the way as well!

Swords of Gargantua
Swords of Gargantua is an excellent sword combat title that can be played cooperatively online with three other players. With plenty of new content added after its one-year anniversary, there is no better time to check it out. The rogue-lite action game provides a great arm workout.
The Thrill of the Fight
The Thrill of the Fight is the most realistic boxing title available in virtual reality. Players will have to learn the sweet science rather than just punch rapidly. With plenty of training and bouts that will test your endurance, this remains one of the best fitness games.

With gameplay that tests your reflexes and is always changing, Until You Fall is made for fitness. This action RPG will make sure your core and arms get a workout as you go up against enemies. It works great on the Quest and the untethered experience is the best way to play.

Surprisingly available for free, VRWorkout is one of the best ways to get fit in virtual reality. It includes a variety of exercises including jumping, squatting, pushups, side planks, crunches, running, and burpees. While it’s an incredible tool, it doesn’t check for your surroundings, so make sure you are playing in an open space that is safe.
If you own a stationary bike, then you will want to get VZfit. The sensor attaches to your bike and works with its two VR apps. The Explorer app allows players to ride their bike anywhere in the world, while the Play app gives you 10 different games to test your endurance on. Both apps are tied to the VZfit subscription service, but it’s one of the best leg workouts in VR.
